Moonrock – Foilco’s most distinctive foil yet – offers a different approach. Developed using technology derived from hologram manufacturing, Moonrock creates the illusion of depth and movement on a completely flat surface, without relying on changing light, viewing angle or embossing.
The dimensional appearance is already resolved within the surface itself.
First introduced in Silver last year, Moonrock has since been specified across a range of creative applications. The range now includes Gold and Copper, with bespoke colour options available. Each retains the defining characteristic of Moonrock: perceived depth that appears fully formed in a single flat-stamped pass.
According to Matt Hornby, Chief Creative Officer at Foilco, Moonrock was developed to challenge assumptions around how foil performs.
“For years, depth in foil has been associated with either movement or physical texture. We wanted to explore whether it was possible to create a surface that felt dimensional without relying on either. Moonrock is the result of that thinking. It’s completely flat stamped, yet the visual depth is already there. It doesn’t depend on light or interaction – it simply exists on the surface.”
